The BFF Quilt Pattern
The BFF Quilt Pattern is the latest Sewspicious quilt pattern and my first release of 2023. In this post, I'll give details on the design and show my sample quilts for the BFF Quilt Pattern!
BFF is a block-based quilt pattern. The hearts are made using half-square triangles and quarter-square triangles. The pattern is perfect for your favorite fabrics from your collection, fat quarters, or your scrap stash.
The blue and white BFF quilt uses solids from Art Gallery Pure Elements Solids in Cozumel (PE-402) and Snow (PE-433).
The backing fabric in this quilt is Art Gallery's Onward and Upward's Collection in Hopeful Heart (OUP362002).

The Design
This pattern has been in the making for a while now. It is the first pattern idea I came up with in Alderwood Studio's Pattern Writing Academy.
I went through various design ideas, heart sizes, and sample blocks. The hearts went through different sizes, zig-zagging sizes, and arrangements before finally settling into this design. Lynett from LynsAvenue was a huge help in helping me decide the perfect arrangement for the hearts. It was her idea to have them offset and start and end with a half-heart in every other row. Pattern Details
The BFF quilt pattern is another fun and modern heart quilt. Use your fabric stash or scrap stash to make the hearts and pull some yardage for the background.
The hearts are made using half-square triangles (HSTs) and quarter-square triangles (QSTs). The hearts come together so quickly once you have all these pieces together and ready to go. The pattern includes a little bit of extra room in the units for trimming and a small section on how to trim them if you have never trimmed HSTs and QSTs. The BFF Quilt Pattern comes with lots of size options. The pattern includes instructions for the following sizes:
- Baby size quilt – 44" x 40"
- Throw size quilt – 59" x 68"
- Twin size bed quilt – 73" x 82"
- Bed quilt – 102" x 96"
The Scrappy Pink and Yellow BFF Quilt
This Scrappy sample quilt is a throw size made with Art Gallery Fabrics - La Vie en Rose FQ Bundle (FQWTRB1) and White Linen (PE-408).
I love how bright and cheery these colors look together. The yellow pops in this quilt. I wasn’t sure about using the yellow and I had originally taken it out of the FQ bundle, but I am so glad that I decided to change my mind and just go with it.
I added a few extra solids in pink and purple to the bundle to add a little more variation to the scrappy hearts. All from Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Elements: Cosmos, Rock Candy, Cactus Flower, Raspberry Rose and Festival Fuchsia.
The backing fabric in this quilt is Art Gallery's La Vie en Rose Collection in Euphloria Rose (TRB1002).
